Clean, good-condition clothes and bedding. Toiletries need to be new and unopened.
Everything is given completely free of charge, with kindness, dignity and no judgement. Nobody needs to prove their hardship or explain their circumstances.
Tap through the three steps.
Sometimes making a difference begins with a simple conversation. If you see someone sleeping rough, don't be afraid to acknowledge them. Say hello, ask how they are and whether they need warm clothing or other essentials. Listen to what they actually want, and respect their wishes if they'd prefer not to talk.
You don't have to solve everything yourself. If someone needs a coat, socks, gloves or other emergency clothing, reach out to Threads of Kindness. We'll check what donations we have and do our best to help. Help depends on stock and capacity, and we can't provide emergency accommodation.
@threadsofkindness.community
Threads of Kindness began with a simple act of kindness and a chance encounter on New Year's Day 2026.
That day, I met a gentleman named Kevin, who was experiencing homelessness. During our conversation, I gave him my own coat. It was a spontaneous gesture, with no expectations attached. I simply wanted him to have something warm.
At the time, I had no idea that giving away one coat would plant the seed for something much bigger.
Meeting Kevin brought home the reality of what it means to face the cold without the warmth, comfort and security that so many of us take for granted.
That experience inspired me to take part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out, a fundraising challenge supporting homeless veterans. Spending a night outdoors gave me a greater appreciation of just how difficult and unforgiving the cold can be for those without somewhere safe and warm to sleep.
Through that experience, and the generosity of those who supported my fundraising, I became even more determined to do something meaningful within my own community.
And so, Threads of Kindness - The Winter Giving Project was born.
Our aim is simple: to bring people together to help individuals and families by providing warm clothing, winter essentials and a little kindness when it is needed most.
We believe that everyone deserves warmth, dignity and compassion, regardless of their circumstances.
Our winter giveaways will allow people to choose the items they need completely free of charge, without referrals, judgement or having to explain their situation.
Nobody should have to prove their hardship to receive a warm coat.
What started with Kevin and one coat has grown into a vision of neighbours helping neighbours, local businesses supporting their communities, and small acts of generosity creating something much greater.
Because sometimes, one act of kindness is all it takes to start something extraordinary.
Connecting communities through compassion.
Help us build something special in our community. Threads of Kindness is a new, volunteer-led initiative supporting individuals and families experiencing hardship.
Our first project is a free winter clothing and essentials giveaway, where people choose what they need with dignity, kindness and without judgement. We're looking for a few kind-hearted, reliable people to join our committee.
There'll be a raffle on the day of our Winter Giving event, with prizes generously donated by local businesses.
The businesses, organisations and people who've supported us through donations, volunteering, services or sharing their skills.
Follow along for drop-off updates, event dates and the people your kindness reaches.
Threads of Kindness is a volunteer-led community initiative supporting people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping through clothing, essential supplies and community giving. We are not currently a registered charity. For questions about personal information, contact us at threadsofkindness.community@gmail.com.
Depending on how you contact us or participate, we may receive your name, contact details, messages, volunteer interests, donation or collection arrangements, and information needed to respond to a request for clothing. If you contact us on behalf of another person, please share only what is necessary and, where appropriate, with their knowledge. We do not require people to prove they are homeless to receive clothing assistance. We aim not to collect unnecessary medical, safeguarding or other sensitive details.
We use information to reply to enquiries; coordinate clothing donations, collections and emergency assistance; organise volunteers and community events; manage legitimate safeguarding concerns; and keep appropriate administrative records. We do not sell personal information. We will not use someone's circumstances or story for publicity without appropriate permission.
Under UK data protection law, our lawful basis depends on the activity. This may include legitimate interests in running the community initiative and responding to enquiries; consent where specifically requested (for example, optional publicity); compliance with legal obligations; or protection of vital interests in an emergency. If we need to process special-category information, we will identify an additional lawful condition before doing so.
Access is limited to people who need the information to carry out an authorised project task. We may share necessary details with a delivery or referral contact where appropriate, or with emergency services, safeguarding agencies or other authorities where there is a lawful and proportionate reason.
This website has no contact form. Emails come to our project Gmail account (Google), and messages on Instagram or Facebook are handled by Meta. The website is hosted by VisQuanta. These providers process information under their own service arrangements, and some of it may be processed outside the UK.
We aim to keep records secure, restrict access and avoid sharing personal information in public posts or informal volunteer groups. Messages are kept in the project's email and social media accounts, which only the organisers can access. We keep personal information only as long as needed for its purpose, legal responsibilities or safeguarding reasons, and then securely delete it.
This website doesn't use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. It keeps a basic, anonymous count of visits. Our Cookies notice explains exactly what is stored and how to clear it.
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask to access, correct, erase or restrict use of your personal information, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent where consent is relied upon. Contact us at threadsofkindness.community@gmail.com. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Our website may link to external organisations, social media and an Amazon Wish List. Those services have their own privacy notices. We may update this notice as our activities or website change.

At Threads of Kindness, the safety, dignity and wellbeing of everyone we support is fundamental to our work.
We are committed to safeguarding children and adults at risk throughout our community activities, emergency clothing distributions and Winter Giving events.
Our approach is founded on compassion, respect, confidentiality and the belief that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, regardless of their circumstances.
Our safeguarding arrangements include designated responsibility for responding to concerns, appropriate volunteer guidance and procedures for referring concerns to relevant safeguarding authorities.
Children attending our organised events must remain accompanied by their parent or guardian.
Where we encounter an unaccompanied young person experiencing homelessness, or an individual who may be at risk of significant harm, we will seek appropriate assistance from statutory safeguarding services.
Threads of Kindness does not provide emergency accommodation or specialist safeguarding services.
If someone is in immediate danger, please call 999.
Our safeguarding procedures are reviewed as the project develops to ensure they remain appropriate to our activities.
